The growth in the popularity of the World Wide Web is to a large extent due to the growth of online (web-based) databases. Put simply users (customers, clients etc.) can access data at the same time via a standard web-browser, without the need to install additional software on their computers.

Web-databases allow people to interrogate the data held within a database and display the results in a suitably formatted medium via a web-browser.
